Aspiring young artists are being challenged to take part in an ambitious art project to design three sculptures made of recycled materials.
The sculptures will be showcased at the Year of Young People 2018 space at GO LIVE! at the Green during the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. The Junk Art Challenge, launched by Young Scot, calls for artists to create thought-provoking sculpture designs that explore young people’s passion for sustainability including reducing plastic waste and improving recycling in Scotland.
Young artists aged 11-26 will use recycled, upcycled and reclaimed materials for their sculpture to champion sustainability. The chosen three ideas will be brought to life with help from members of the public of all ages at GO LIVE on the Green. The activity is part of the young people’s area at GO LIVE! at the Green which will be themed around Year of Young People 2018.
During the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, the area will shine a light on young people’s ideas and talents through a series of fun and intergenerational activity. Supported by the Scottish Government, Young Scot will host the YoYP 2018 area at GO LIVE! at the Green from 2-12 August.
The Junk Art Challenge is now open to young artists (11-26) across Scotland, who have until Thursday 26 July to enter with their initial ideas.

At the Green using mass participation art. Artists will interact and engage with visitors to create the three sculptures. An expert judging panel will give the three artists £1,000 to help transform their designs into real-life sculptures at GO LIVE! at the Green.
The three sculptures will be on display at Glasgow Green throughout the Glasgow 2018 European Championships before visiting key locations in Scotland to promote young people’s ideas and talents across the country, including the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards in November.
