Princes Street was closed for more than an hour this morning after a pedestrian was struck by masonry from the Balmoral Hotel.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 10.50am and the man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Princes Street was temporarily closed to pedestrians and traffic in both directions between North Bridge and St Andrews Square as a precaution.

“The road has now reopened and the public are thanked for their understanding.

“The Health and Safety Executive and City of Edinburgh Council have been contacted.”
