Heriot-Watt student Taylor Stefishen has had more time for his studies this week as he recovers from a freak accident.
The 27-year-old, Canadian-born winger damaged a hip by standing on the stick of an opponent as the Murrayfield men lost 4-3 after penalty shots in a Challenge Cup, Group B, clash at Dundee Stars last Saturday.
Stefishen, a brother of 35-year-old Adam, who played over 100 games for Edinburgh during two seasons, sat out Sunday’s 3-1 Elite League home defeat to Braehead Clan on Sunday.
And he hated being on the sidelines.
He is desperate to be back as Edinburgh travel to Belfast Giants on Saturday also in the Challenge Cup.
And they host arch rivals Fife Flyers on Sunday (face-off 6pm).
Stefishen, who was once drafted by National Hockey League (NHL) outfit Nashville Preadators in North America, said: “In the second period face-off I got tangled up with one of the Dundee players.
“I stepped on his stick off the draw and tweaked my hip flexor a little bit.
“It is nothing serious, which I’m happy about, and hopefully I’ll be out for just one game.”
The former college hockey star has also played in Italy and France and the former University of Calgary forward has received physio on the injury this week.
Assessing Capitals season so far he said: “We’ve beaten ourselves a lot of the time this season.”
