Clover | Underbelly | 1850
If there is one thing that this reviewer will be grateful to Sooz Kempner for, it is introducing us to a film called The Room. Look it up.
We are also grateful to the Fringe for introducing us to the work of multi-talented artiste.
The show centres on Sooz’s love of film, her love of Goodfellas and her 200-page script written when she was sixteen.
In many ways this is a love letter to the sixteen-year-old Sooz. Her skilful use of film to speak to a series of characters is very clever indeed. It engages and Sooz is engaging and funny.
She is also a cracking singer and even her short bursts of Kate Bush’s “This Women’s Work” make you want to seek out more of her work.
As a movie buff, the discovery that Sooz was the owner of the cat in Aliens was a trivia treasure trove but more importantly Sooz’s show is a warm, engaging, poignant insight into a life and career of a very talented artist.
