Hibs started the season with a 4-0 win over Dunfermline at East End Park last night.

Neil Lennon’s starting XI included new signing Danny Swanson, trialist Jermaine Pennant and youngsters Ryan Porteous, Callum Crane and Oli Shaw.

Hibs opened the scoring after 27 minutes when Swanson latched onto a Crane cutback.

Just before the break Pennant struck the post with a 25-yard free-kick.

Hibs made seven changes at half-time with new signing Simon Murray making his debut.

Pennant made it 2-0 in the 55th minute before being substituted and Martin Boyle made it three 10 minutes later. connecting with another angled ball from McGinn and drilling past Murdoch.

Shaw wrapped things up with a header from a John McGinn cross in the 75th minute.

After the game Lennon confirmed that Hibs are hoping to sign former defender Steven Whittaker but the deal to bring Luke Perry to Easter Road has fallen through.

Hibs now face Sunderland on Sunday in a testimonial match for long serving defender Lewis Stevenson.
