A police investigation us underway after a suspicious item was found in a toilet cubicle at McDonald’s outlet in Glasgow road earlier this morning.

Staff raised the alarm and the restaurant was evacuated and closed for over two hours.

The item was examined and assessed to pose no risk before customers were allowed back inside.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to McDonald’s in Glasgow Road at around 10.20am on Friday following a report of a suspicious item being found in a bathroom cubicle.

“The item has been assessed to pose no risk to the public and patrons were allowed to renter the premises around 12.30pm.

“Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”
