thomas_stronen__2-11-16_credit_knutbry_show_infoThe Norwegian percussionist and composer Thomas Strønen will bring his group of five improvising musicians to The Queen’s Hall on 2 November 2016.

This is music which is difficult to exactly categorise but it has bits of jazz and other contemporary influences.

The band will perform music from their recent album released on ECM. The all-acoustic ensemble is made up of Norwegians and English musicians and the music has the notion of time as a key theme.

We spoke to Thomas over Skype to find out about him and his music. He got his first drum kit aged eleven and started off in a rock band, quickly moving onto a jazz band. After six years of study at a Norwegian conservatoire he felt able to move on with his own selection of musicians. The band recorded a debut release last year, and plan a new recording after their current tour has ended.
