The Queen’s Hall attracts big names belying the fact that it is a relatively small venue.

Scottish Chamber Orchestra : Ticciati conducts Strauss

13 October 2016 at 7.30pm

Robin Ticciatii will conduct The Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by Strauss but the SCO will also premiere a new piano concerto by Martin Suckling.

Suckling blurs the lines between soloist and orchestra, abandoning traditional ideas of the concerto as a vehicle for display for one in which “the piano sings the world into existence”.

There is an opportunity to meet Martin Suckling at 6.30pm.

A four piece traditional folk group from Dublin. What more do you need to know? They will be good!

Formed as an experimental-psychedelic-folk-punk-duo by brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch in the early 2000’s, the group has gone through various incarnations and taken part in a number of musical projects, including recording for movie soundtracks and TV documentaries. The current format however, is considered by all four members to be the most focussed, productive and musically exciting to date.

National Youth Orchestra of Scotland : Ellington in Anticipation

20 October 2016 at 8.00pm

The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland collaborates with Mark Lockhart and they will be directed by Malcolm Edmonton with music from Mark’s latest album.

This project involves more senior members of the NYOS jazz and classical Orchestras brought together to form NYOS Futures, the cutting-edge, cross-genre, contemporary ensemble of The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland.

Sir James Caird Centenary Concert (1916-2016)

This is a fundraising concert of Scots airs and arias to raise money for Dundee’s Caird Trust encouraging Scottish musical talent to mark one hundred years since the death of the Dundee philanthropist.

Leading Scottish soprano Kate Valentine, mezzo-soprano Laura Margaret Smith, tenor Warren Gillespie, baritone Michael Mofidian, piano accompanist Malcolm Martineau, pianist Christopher Guildand violinist Michael Foyle.

UFO : A Conspiracy of Stars
