A police investigation is underway after a 16-year-old girl was subjected to a serious sexual assault in a playpark in West Pilton Park which took place between 11pm and midnight on Tuesday.

Officers are following a positive line of inquiry following the incident, and the area has been cordoned off.

Forensic investigations are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them immediately.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh are currently investigating the serious sexual assault of a 16-year-old female, which took place at a playpark in the West Pilton Park area on Tuesday.

“Officers are currently following a positive line of inquiry in relation to this but would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
