A police investigation us underway after a  25-year-old was assaulted outside Sneaky Pete’s club in the Cowgate at about 02:30 on Thursday morning.

The attacker was arguing with another man in the street before he punched the victim causing him to fall to the ground. The victim was then taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being moved to the city’s Western General Hospital.

The attacker is described as white, about 6ft 1in, of thin build with short dark hair. He is thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a dark jacket, a royal blue top with a white logo on the left side of the chest, and dark jeans.

Pc Lauren Mitchell, of Police Scotland, said: “It’s possible someone might remember seeing this man’s aggressive behaviour outside the nightclub.

“The suspect made off west along the Cowgate towards the Grassmarket, so it’s also possible someone might have seen a man running in that direction.”
