Following intelligence gathered by Police Scotland’s Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit, detectives supported local officers in Musselburgh to detain a 33-year-old man and 32-year-old woman at their home in Bellfield Court on Thursday 3rd March.

A search of the couple’s property was then carried out resulting in the recovery of around half a kilo of heroin worth an estimated £45,000.

Police also seized £10,000 in cash from the address.

Both were arrested and are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Chief Inspector Matt Paden, Local Area Commander for East Lothian said: “Thanks to the vital intelligence gathered from the public by our OCCTU colleagues we were able to recover a substantial quantity of harmful drugs before they could make their way into our communities.

“Tackling drug crime is one of our top priorities for East Lothian and we will continue to utilise all of Police Scotland’s specialist resources to bring those responsible for these sort of offences to justice.

“Enforcement activity such as this can only be successful with the help of the public and I would urge anyone with information on drug offences in their area to come forward to police or contact the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Detective Inspector Graeme Naysmith from Police Scotland’s OCCTU (East) said: “We regularly work alongside local divisions to tackle all forms of serious and organised crime and these arrests are another demonstration of our proactive approach to ridding offenders from our communities.

“In addition to the OCCTU and local resources used during this operation, we were also supported by the Dog Unit, who are a valuable search asset and we are grateful for their assistance.

“We continue to gather intelligence from the public that helps us target serious and organised crime and should you wish to come forward and provide us with information then rest assured it will be handled with the utmost sensitivity and will be thoroughly investigated.”
