If taking part in the breath-taking Loony Dook at South Queensferry – the annual dip in the freezing River Forth on New Year’s Day – isn’t your thing, Edinburgh Leisure at least has an alternative, warmer option to kick-start those New Year’s resolutions.

So burn off some excess energy or festive cheer and pay a visit to The Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is open for business on 1 January from 9:00hrs-16:00hrs, on 2 January from 05:30hrs-16:00hrs and on 3 January from 07:30hrs-17:00hrs.

Sitting in the shadow of the spectacular Arthur’s Seat on Dalkeith Road, The Royal Commonwealth Pool offers a wide range of modern health and fitness activities for all the family. The gym, Clambers soft-play, Café Refresh and Edinburgh’s only 50 metre pool, will all be open for business on 1 and 2 January, with classes starting on 3 January.

Many of Edinburgh Leisure’s venues are open until 16:00hrs on 24 December, although the six golf courses will close at 14:45hrs.

Edinburgh Leisure creates opportunities for everyone to get active, stay active and achieve more. With over 30 venues, Edinburgh Leisure offers a huge choice of sport and activity with something for everyone.

Organisers of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay have once again teamed up with premium drinks company, Diageo, Lothian Buses and Essential Edinburgh to provide a Free Hogmanay NightBus Service to get revellers home after the city’s world famous celebrations.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, which is produced by Unique Events on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council, will welcome 75,000 revellers to the Street Party, Concert in the Gardens and the Old Town Ceilidh on 31 December.

The Free Hogmanay NightBus Service, supported by Diageo and provided by Lothian Buses, will operate from 00:20am to 04:00am on Friday 1 January from the city centre to a range of destinations. Get the full details of the free Hogmanay buses.

The service is running as part of the Join the Pact global responsible drinking initiative from Johnnie Walker which has secured over one million personal commitments from people across the world to never to drink and drive.
