Cappella Caeciliana is one of Northern Ireland’s leading choirs. Founded on the feast of St Cecilia in 1995, the choir has sung liturgies and concerts all over Northern Ireland and has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the USA. On Saturday Cappella Caeciliana will be in Edinburgh with special guests The Priests – Fr David Delargy, Fr Eugene O’Hagan and Fr Martin O’Hagan – who were the founder members of the choir – to perform a Concert for St Cecilia’s Day, on the eve of the feast day of the patroness of musicians.
Acclaimed Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan will conduct Cappella Caeciliana in three of his own works, including the world premiere of Ut omnes unum sint, which he has written specially for the choir’s 20th anniversary. The programme will include music by Karl Jenkins, Byrd, Britten, Purcell, Schubert, Vivaldi and Palestrina. The choir’s own director, Donal McCrisken, will also conduct, and the organist will be Stephen Hamill.
The concert will begin at 7.30pm on Saturday 21st November at St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral, York Place. Admission is free and unticketed; a retiring collection will be taken.
