Mariusz Szczygiel and Antonia Lloyd-Jones in Conversation. Acclaimed Polish non-fiction writer Mariusz Szczygiel is the author of Gottland: Mostly True Stories from Half of Czechoslovakia, a cultural history of the country told through the stories of the artists, writers and performers whose lives were completely, and often strangely, altered by the times they lived in, in a state that no longer exists. Szczygiel’s translator Antonia Lloyd-Jones is the pre-eminent translator of Polish reportage and has twice received the Found in Translation award. 6.30pm, Word Power Books, West Nicolson Street. Street Soccer Scotland: Football Works Edinburgh. A six-week course to help increase fitness, confidence, motivation, health and social skills, helping participants to get ready for work or further education. Students will complete an SQA in Communications and Working with Others, and will take part in practical football sessions and get an introduction to football coaching, with the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications. Participants will also receive full employability and personal development support, which will continue on completion. This is a free course for anyone, male or female, over the age of 16 (no maximum age limit).
