Noel and Eve

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after three ducks were rescued in Edinburgh over the weekend.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was first called to collect a Muscovy duck found waddling down Buckstone Loan East on Saturday (20 December).

The Scottish SPCA was then alerted to two ducklings which had been abandoned in a stairwell on Howden Street on Sunday (21 December).

All three birds are now being cared for at the charity’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno.

Senior Inspector Jenny Scott said, “We think the duck found in Buckstone, who we’ve nicknamed Rudders, has escaped from home.

“Muscovy ducks aren’t good fliers so we don’t think he has travelled very far. They aren’t native to Britain and Rudders is friendly and in good condition, so this would suggest someone has been keeping him as a pet.

“The ducklings discovered in the stairwell appear to have been abandoned as they were left inside a cage along with a bag of food.

“A resident found them in the morning and kept them in his bath until I arrived.

“No-one in the block knew who might have owned them so we are appealing to anyone with information to get in touch.

“We’ve named these lovely little ducklings Noel and Eve and we’ll look after them until we can find them a permanent new home.”

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
