bad manners

Purveyors of ska music know what to expect when Bad Manners come to town. The legendary masters of ska, led as always by the inimitable Buster Bloodvessel, headed to Edinburgh’s Citrus Club on Friday night as they have done at this time in the calendar in recent years.

A Friday night two weeks before Christmas was always likely to have a frenzied atmosphere and the Citrus Club, by its very intimacy, added to the general gratitude of its patrons having escaped the office Christmas party for some skanking good ska music. And how the sell-out crowd lapped it up.

All the old favourites were belted out to a raucous crowd. Sally Brown, Special Brew, Lorraine, Just a Feeling and many others were delivered with Bad Manners’ customary gusto as the alcohol flowed both on stage and off and a marvellous party atmosphere ensued.

When Buster and his merry men left the stage we all knew they would be back for their encore and their trademark Lip Up Fatty and the Can-Can. Bad Manners gigs always promise much and they never disappoint.

A word too about local support act Big Fat Panda. This was the first time I had seen the band and I was mightily impressed. They are regulars on the Edinburgh ska circuit so if you get the chance to see them grab it with both hands.

Edinburgh Reporter Star Rating – 5 stars all the way!
