Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and attempted robbery on Leith Links around 6.35pm last night.

The 27 year old victim got off the number 25 bus at Leith Links and walked on the footpath across the park where he was approached by two males who demanded he hand over his possessions. He refused and was then assaulted by the suspects before they made off in the direction of Hermitage Place.

The first man is described as white, local accent, 18 to 22 years old, 5ft 7in, thin build, wearing grey joggers, light coloured trainers and a turquoise Primark hooded top.

The second man is described as white, 18 to 22 years old, 5ft 5in, stocky build, wearing a burgundy Primark hooded top.

Detective Constable Alison Wyllie said: “This attempted robbery has left the victim with bruising to his ribs and he is understandably shaken by it.

“Inquiries are continuing and we are determined to find those responsible for this attack. If anyone was in the area at the time, they are urged to contact police immediately.”
