Edinburgh-born, Daryl Dmarco, is to release his new album Hollywood Crush in March 2014.
Dmarco is no stranger to the music industry. The new artist spent a fair chunk of his childhood hanging out backstage with famous musicians obtaining an admiration for music which has obviously played down to influence.
From his adolescence he has some impressive anecdotes. Dmarco’s father owned three separate venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow, which have played host to some of the biggest names in music where the 15-year-old Daryl fraternised with Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake while jamming with Slash on guitar. Also, his mother’s partner, Jo Callis, is the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of The Human League. From the tender age of 8, Daryl would sit outside of Callis’ room in the evenings, press his ear to the door and listen to him craft some new songs on his guitar while trying to avoid being caught by his mother for not going to sleep.
The title track, ‘Hollywood Crush’, is oozing with ‘cult smash’, being a revolutionary ‘middle-finger’ up to the Hollywood film industry and the story of an underdog.
Two tracks on the album were recorded in the same recording studio where David Bowie’s Heroes and U2’s Achtung Baby were documented. Dmarco worked with Scottish producer and tenor, Martin Aelred. During the sessions, he insisted that he recorded vocals in a historical stairwell for the song ‘All I Need’. It required 8 assistants to run 170 meters of cable, only just reaching the stairwell from the studio.
Hollywood Crush is released next month with a launch party at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange on 31 March 2014. To coincide with the release of the album, Dmarco will be off on a tour of Japan.
Songs can be heard on his Soundcloud or website.
