A scheme to recognise and reward well-run pubs, bars and clubs in Edinburgh is holding an awards ceremony today to celebrate those premises with the best working practices.

The Best Bar None Edinburgh awards ceremony, presented by Ian Rankin, takes place at 1pm within the Lothian Chambers, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented to thirty licensed premises from the Leith and Grassmarket areas of the City. These premises have demonstrated good working practices and commitment to create well managed and safe licensing environments in Edinburgh.

Renowned Edinburgh author Ian Rankin is presenting the awards and speakers include Mandy Haeburn-Little, the Director the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, as well as the convener of the Edinburgh Licensing Board, Councillor Eric Milligan.

The Best Bar None scheme was initially pioneered in 2003 by Greater Manchester Police and was adopted in Scotland in 2005, gaining support from the Scottish Business Resilience Centre.  The scheme has operated in Leith from 2011 and was extended to incorporate the Grassmarket in 2013.

The scheme is coordinated locally by Police Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Council, the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and the Scottish Business Resilience Centre. It draws sponsorship from Diageo, Heineken, Molson Coors and Tennents.

Inspector Dianne Bruce from Police Scotland said: “With Best Bar None now in its eighth year, I am pleased to see the scheme has gone from strength to strength, showing a real commitment from licensees to help provide a safe environment for people to socialise in Edinburgh.

“The awards serve as an excellent platform to promote best practice and public safety and go a long way to supporting our policing plan objectives of tackling crime, creating safer communities, building on success and being there for the community.”
