Visitors to Edinburgh can now find out about all those lovely quirky places in the capital that it seems only travel writers ever get to experience, and those of us lucky enough to live in Edinburgh all year round can also find their ideal holiday accommodation simply by logging on to a new website called Roomwise.
This is a web-based search for your perfect holiday location, which will definitely find you holidaying somewhere quite different!
From hotel boats (yes boats!) to log cabins, castles to country mansions Roomwise have taken at least some of the difficulty out of your search by laying all the options out for you – and the options are very different from the norm!
The ethos behind the company is that even just an overnight stay should be a complete travel experience and not just somewhere to lay your weary head on the pillow. They want you to know more about the neighbourhood, the building and the history in the same way as you might if a friend had recommended the venue to you.
When you click on one of their properties you are offered a nightly, weekly and monthly rate and you are given full details of the accommodation and the neighbourhood. So how do they do it?
Well they marry up the property owner with the person who wants to stay there. The property owner lists all the information they think you will need to know, including some rules and regulations to make sure that there is no doubt as to the deal each of you is entering into.
If you are a property owner, whether you have a guest room or a whole castle to spare, then you can register on the site and start making income from it right away, without the need to do any other marketing as Roomwise take care of all of that for you. Hosts only pay a transaction fee on payment from the ‘tenant’.
The user-friendly site comes into its own when you are a visitor too. You can set all sorts of filters to find your ideal kind of place, often at a better rate than most hotel rooms.
There is a messaging system to allow you to chat to the owner if you need to, either before or after the let.
