Olivier Award-nominated Wizard Presents, brings I Believe in Unicorns by award-winning children’s author and former Children’s Laureate, Michael Morpurgo (War Horse, Private Peaceful) to the Pleasance Beside. Directed by Dani Parr (associate director of Royal & Derngate Northampton) winner of a Best Children’s Event and an Argus Angel Award for innovation at this year’s Brighton Festival, and designed by Kate Bunce, I Believe in Unicorns, which includes spontaneous storytelling, is based on Morpurgo’s tale of the power of books. Set in times of war and peace it is performed by storyteller Danyah Miller, together with actor and musician Michael Imerson (Dizzy O Dare)
Tomas loves playing outdoors…he hates school and books and being dragged to the library by his mother.
But his world is turned upside down the day he meets the Unicorn and the Unicorn Lady and is spellbound by their story. Soon he too believes that unicorns live forever.
Discover the power of stories to transform lives as Tomas becomes instrumental in saving his burning library; when in the midst of war his village is overrun by soldiers.
Each performance is a unique and truly interactive experience as the audience is encouraged to contribute to and influence the story. We invite you to bring an unwanted favourite children’s book to form part of our set. There will then be an opportunity to swap it for another at the end of the performance.
