Edinburgh Airport enjoys busiest June on record with 8.4% increase in passenger traffic

More passengers passed through Edinburgh Airport last month than any other June on record, with over 950,000 people travelling through the airport – a rise of 8.4% on the previous year.

Scotland’s busiest airport experienced a 7.8% increase in domestic travellers, with 424,711 people passing through the terminal in June, fuelled by continued strong performances from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Little Red. In addition, international traffic was up by 8.8% with a total of 531,851 passengers.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said:- “It’s great to see we’re continuing our record breaking summer season, with both May and June seeing the highest number of passengers ever.

“In the same month where we were named ‘Best European Airport (5-10m passengers)’ at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards for 2012, it’s hugely encouraging to see another positive increase to our domestic and international traffic figures, which are continuing to rise as a result of good performances from our domestic airlines and the introduction of new international routes.

“The last few months have proved to be hugely successful for us with a number of high-profile industry awards, new route launches and of course a huge increase in passenger numbers. We work hard to ensure our passengers have the best experience and choice possible and this definitely reflects in the passenger figures of the last two months. We’re looking forward to a great summer which will continue to see Edinburgh Airport be the place where Scotland meets the world.”
