ONE-STOP ONLINE PORTAL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE’S VACANCIES

The City of Edinburgh Council is teaming up with online recruitment platform Recruitwork to offer a dedicated online portal for the city’s school leavers.

From today, all vacancies and opportunities that become available through the Edinburgh Guarantee will be published online on the Recruitwork website, a service that matches young people to employers and their vacancies.

The Edinburgh Guarantee, led by the Council in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector partners, is working to ensure that every school leaver in the city has the choice of a job, training or further education. The Council aims to build on the success of the scheme, which has helped generate over 1000 additional opportunities for young people since it started in late 2011.

Young people will get access to the site while still at school, and be able to browse it for opportunities and upload their CVs.

The service is being launched with the advertisement of 12 internship positions within NHS Lothian.  These six month-long, paid roles are in a range of services, and offer a unique opportunity for a recent school leaver to get valuable experience in a real working environment.

Councillor Frank Ross Convenor of Economy Committee

Economic Convenor, Councillor Frank Ross, said: “We are very pleased that Recruitwork have made their platform available to the Edinburgh Guarantee for free, as a way of supporting the work being done to help young people into work.

“With the help of partners, like Recruitwork and NHS Lothian, we aim to have the whole city helping to make sure our young people have opportunities to succeed in their careers.”

Niall Grant, CEO of Recruitwork said, “Recruitwork is delighted to be working in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council to help deliver this exciting initiative. Recruitwork removes the barriers between Edinburgh’s businesses and its young people, and we are confident that the Edinburgh Guarantee will be a success for both employers and for our young people.

Alan Boyter, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, NHS Lothian said, “We are pleased to be supporting this scheme to help more young people secure employment and the internships we are offering are an excellent opportunity for them to gain experience and skills.

“We are offering positions across a range of departments in NHS Lothian which are ideally suited to recent school leavers who want to progress straight into employment. We look forward to welcoming our new starts in March and having them contribute to our organisation.”
