Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the East of Edinburgh. The incident happened around 10.30pm on Wednesday 12 December 2012 in the Milton Link area.

A woman had finished work within the Fort Kinnaird retail park and walked through the underpass as she heading towards a bus stop.

At this time two men approached and pushed the 20-year-old against a wall before robbing her of the contents of her handbag and making off towards ASDA.

The victim returned home before reporting the matter to police. Detectives believe this robbery is linked to a similar incident in the area from over the weekend when a 50-year-old woman was walking along the rear footpath of Fort Kinnaird and onto Magdalane Glen at around 5.15pm on Sunday 9th December when two men approached and attempted to rob her of her bag.

During the struggle, which ensued, the woman used her cigarette to burn the hand of one of the men before slapping the other and the fleeing along Magdalane Glen.

Police are now keen to hear from anyone who can assist with their enquiries into either of these incidents.

The first suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and wearing dark clothing.

The second suspect is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall and also wearing dark clothing.

During the robbery on Wednesday both men were also wearing woollen hats and gloves. Detective Constable John McShane said: “The description of the suspects and the manner of both attacks are similar and we are looking into the possibility that the same two men are responsible.

“Fortunately neither woman was injured during either incident, but were, nevertheless, left understandably shaken as a result.

“Anyone who recognises the description of these men or remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area, either over the weekend or on Wednesday night, is asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
