Precious Metals Workshop Holds Third Annual Charity Event

The Precious Metals Workshop (PMW) is holding its third annual charity event “Ready, Steady,   Jewel!”  The event is based loosely on BBC Two’s Ready Steady Cook.  Replacing chefs with jewellers, “Ready, Steady, Jewel!” showcases 15 participants, 10 of whom are current university graduates from Glasgow School of Art, Duncan of Jordanstone, and Edinburgh College of Art – invitations are based on the strength of participants’ degree shows.  The remaining five invitations are extended to established and respected jewellers throughout the UK.

With a total of 8 hours over 7-8 July, each jeweller created a unique piece that is then being displayed in Edinburgh galleries until 26 August.  Pieces will be auctioned in the Out of the Blue Drill Hall on 31 August 2012 and all monies raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, the Katie Piper Foundation, The Prince’s Trust Youth Business Scotland, and Leith School of Art.

Having raised £8,500 in the previous two years, “Ready, Steady, Jewel!” provides talented young jewellers leaving university with a platform to showcase their work, and an opportunity to raise their public profile, while contributing to a good cause.  All jewellers have been filmed while making their pieces, and the final video can be found on YouTube as well as the ‘Ready, Steady, Jewel!’ website.

The event will be open to the first 300 attendees through the doors; however online bidding for the auction is also available until midnight of the 30th August.

Entry to the event is £3 (which includes a complimentary beverage) and VIP tickets are available for £25, which includes free beverages and canapés, a free raffle ticket, an opportunity to meet the jewellers, and front row or balcony seating.  Raffle tickets are £3 each or 5 for £10. All monies from the auction, raffle, bar and entry tickets go directly to charities.

For more details on the event, including bios on each of this year’s charities and profiles of the jewellers, please visit www.readysteadyjewel.com.

Can’t wait until the auction or unable to make it along on the 31st? Then why not visit the galleries to see the work and get your very own piece commissioned. These unique fifteen items will not be seen together again as they pass briefly through Scotland’s capital city, an exhibition and event not to be missed. All items have a unique RSJ hallmark along with this year’s diamond jubilee mark as well.
