The campaign group was back at the council chambers today trying to ensure that the future of the site in Leith is ensured as a leisure pool not something like a Tesco Store. They explained during the meeting that a new group called Springboard wants to make an offer but as they have not had the figures from Edinburgh Leisure it is impossible to put together an offer by 8 February which is the closing date. They said after the meeting that there seem to be around three or four interested parties. The group have also undertaken to advise the council if they cannot or will not make such an offer within the six months.

This afternoon the Green Party who had tabled the motion for discussion said:-

“It’s very welcome that that this proposal by Green Councillors has won the backing of the majority of the Council. Six months will now be given for a community bid to be put together to take over and reopen Leith Waterworld.

“We’ve also heard a promise today that detailed operating figures will now be released to help the community bid to be worked out.

“It is going to be a huge challenge but it’s something that other communities in Scotland have succeeded in. I very much hope the Council Administration will now get behind the development of this bid and offer any support the community need to bring it forward.”
