A 25 year-old man will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today charged in connection with the death of an elderly woman, Rosie Sutherland, in Longstone.
A couple of events involving a number 44 bus and, separately, a train are concerning police. Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a bus was damaged during an incident in the East of Edinburgh.
A Number 44 Lothian Bus was travelling east along Milton Road at around 7pm on Sunday when a bottle was thrown towards it.
The bottle smashed the bus’s upper deck window and narrowly avoided striking a female passenger.
No one was injured during the incident. However, police are now urging anyone who can help identify those responsible to come forward.
Last Thursday (27th October) a brick was thrown from a bridge over the railway line in the Milton Road/Christian Crescent area and damaged the window of passing train.
Officers believe both incidents are linked and are carrying out local enquiries in the area.
A police spokesman said: ‘These mindless acts of vandalism and aggression resulted in both a train and bus sustaining damage to their windows and it is pure luck that no one was injured during either incident.
‘We believe the same individuals are responsible for the damage to both vehicles and would ask anyone who can assist with our investigation to contact police immediately.
‘Similarly, anyone who was on Milton Road either yesterday or on Thursday, and can identify those responsible, is asked to get in touch.’
Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
