We have been asked what was causing all the loud bangs in the city centre this weekend and we think we have found the culprits.
Edinburgh Castle was the place to be yesterday and today to travel back in time to 1650, the time when Oliver Cromwell, having overthrown and executed Charles I, invaded Scotland and captured the castle.
There have been grand parades of English and Scottish troops, massive thunder of musket volleys and the roar of cannons as the Dragoons have reenacted their defence of Edinburgh’s mighty stronghold.
Edinburgh Castle played a prominent role in the wars sweeping across Britain and was besieged and stormed several times. It was at the centre of brutal executions and imprisonments.
