In a commitment to nurturing future talent within the computer networking industry, Arthur McKay have sponsored a special award for an outstanding student at this year’s graduation ceremony at Jewel & Esk College in Edinburgh.
The firm’s Networks division, a network solutions provider specialising in providing IP based voice and data solutions as well as cabling, physical security and intelligent building networks across Scotland and the UK have sponsored the special Computer Networking award for the past two years.
The award honours those students who have not only stood out academically, but those who have made a significant contribution to the course and have gone the extra mile to enhance their understanding of the sector.
Jason Huth, a mature student who enrolled with the college in 2008, was this year’s award recipient, a unanimous choice from all staff members, who noted his dedication to the course excelling in all aspects despite having extra family commitments out-with. Jason also displayed a willingness to learn and help others, demonstrating patience when assisting other students.
Dave McLean, Head of Network Operations at Arthur McKay attended the ceremony to present Jason with his award. He said: “Students like Jason are exactly what the next generation of computer networking needs and we are delighted to be able to honour Jason and his educational achievements with this award.”
“At Arthur McKay we are committed to supporting the next generation of networking and computing talent, as they form the future for our industry bringing fresh energy and a new way of thinking to the sector. On behalf of everyone at Arthur McKay I would like to wish Jason the best of luck in his future career and hope that his is a name we will hear again. The world of networks can be tough, especially for those trying to break into the sector, but if you have a real determination to succeed, a thirst for knowledge and of course a commitment to putting the extra time in – it is a brilliant and rewarding career to be a part of.”
Mandy Exley, Principal at Jewel & Esk College said: “We were delighted that Dave McLean was able to attend the ceremony and present the award for computer networking.”
“In the current climate it is so important to maintain strong links with business leaders and this award not only recognises academic excellence but helps our students to stand out from the crowd when they go into the industry.”
“For this, we are extremely grateful to Arthur McKay and hope to see them at next year’s graduation ceremony.”
Jewel & Esk’s graduation took place on 23 September at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh where over 200 students graduated in front of 800 guests and guest speaker Fraser Doherty, founder of ‘SuperJam’ and 2007’s Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year.
