Lothian and Borders Fire & Rescue Service (LBFRS) is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), the start of a Flooding Awareness campaign to be highlighted across the Service area. The first event takes place in the car park of Tesco Peebles on Friday 19th August.

The aim is to heighten public awareness of the areas within the Lothians and the Scottish Borders which lie on recognised flood plains. As well as giving information on how to prepare for a flood, there will be literature and advice on what to do if the worst should happen and details of the help that is available.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include our Community Safety Vehicle running advertisement campaigns and information messages. A selection of water rescue equipment used by the Fire Service when flooding occurs will also be on display.

LBFRS and SEPA members of staff will be available to offer advice and they will be giving out flood awareness packs containing all sorts of useful information. There will also be the opportunity to view the flood prevention measures on display and sign up to SEPA’s Floodline direct warning service.

Stewart Prodger, Flooding Communications Manager said: “Although we can’t prevent flooding from happening, it’s vital everyone prepares for the possibility, knows what they can do and who can help.

“Peebles residents can get access to valuable flood preparation advice at this event and we would encourage everybody who lives locally to come along and visit the Community Safety Vehicle so they’re better prepared to deal with flooding if it happens.”

Please take the time to visit us and gather information on something which may affect you at some time in the future.
