Improvised musicals are a very difficult genre of theatre especially when the audience give them difficult subjects and titles, however the ‘No Shoes Theatre Group’ carry it off very well. The quality of the acting and the use of props originating in the audience was of a high standard. Six actors and a live band (percussion, keyboard and double bass) are very much in tune with each other and appear to be doing what they really enjoy.

On the night of the review the audience selected that the musical would be set in a toy factory, have a song ‘My Duck’s not ugly, it has just got a limp’ and the title: ‘The King’s Peach’

Admittedly there were one or two points where the story dragged a little bit but then three of the audience could play ‘trump cards’ to liven things up. This left us all laughing throughout the show and cheers went up as they used the song and title in the musical. Of course this had to have a happy ending and the King did get his Peach!

An enjoyable hour, the audience certainly thought so.

Improvised the Musical is on at C Venues Chambers St 6pm daily until 29th August.
