From this evening you can join in the 48 hour Film Project in Edinburgh. It sounds great fun and there are more details here. Are you taking part? Will you tell us about your film?

More films but this time already shot and edited. Reel Festivals has films about Syria and Lebanon at The Filmhouse, Studio 24 and also some poetry at The Scottish Poetry Library with events taking place tonight and over the whole weekend. The organisation has several aims:-

  • To spread awareness of areas in conflict beyond the headlines.
  • To empower cultural figures and encourage their development.
  • To encourage engagement with the arts and international issues.
  • To encourage dialog between communities.

Showcase is taking place in Corstorphine tonight. What is it? Fundraising by putting on a show! Spring concerts will be held on 20th May at Kirk O’ Field Church, The Pleasance and 21st May at St. Anne’s Church, Kaimes Road, from 7.30pm. More information here.


This week you can “Put a spring in your step!” and join in Walk Week in Edinburgh. You are encouraged to discover the city by exploring all the areas you may not have found before. Walk along short, long, hilly or flat routes. If you would like to register for a walk then get along to the Activcity website. Today at 12-45 you can join in a circular walk along the Union Canal whilst enjoying a talk by Alan Forrester from the Waterways Trust Scotland. the walk is expected to take about an hour.

If you would like to join a walk outside the city then there is one along Tyninghame Beach in East Lothian from 10am to 4pm when you have to bring a packed lunch.

“A Passion for Glass showcases the dazzling collection of modern glass recently gifted to National Museums Scotland by Alan Poole and Dan Klein”

Dan and Alan began collecting in the late 1970s and over the subsequent 30 years assembled one of the most comprehensive collections of modern glass. This exquisite collection includes work by over one hundred makers at the very cutting edge of their art.

A Passion for Glass will be the first chance to see these objects and find out about these makers and the skills used to create these remarkable pieces.

From tonight for the next week you can see the restored version of Taxi Driver at The Cameo.

The Ageing Well Walk takes place today along the Water of Leith past the Dean Gallery to the Botanics. Starts at 10.30am and will take about 2 hours. You have to be over 50 to take part…..

It is Biodiversity weekend at The Royal Botanic Garden. Ages from 5+ “Join us for the opening event of Edinburgh Biodiversity Week.  We’ll have children’s activities, volunteering opportunities, and details of many other events taking place around Edinburgh throughout the week.”

The Edinburgh Marathon is being run today over a course which goes from Holyrood Park to Musselburgh Racecourse, passing along Lochend Road and Portobello Prom on the way. The Edinburgh Marathon was rated the best Scottish running event of any distance (Runners World – Feb 2008)  More details here.

There are two start locations, London Road which starts at 09.50am and Regent Road which starts at 10.00am. They estimate that there will be about 30,000 entrants…….so of course there are some road closures.

Another walk which is also part of Walk Week is Wander over Whinny Hill from 1pm to 3pm. Walk from St Margaret’s Loch, up Whinny Hill and back down Dry Dam/Lang Rig. This one will take about 2 hours.
