The St Columba’s Hospice buy a brick appeal has hit the £300,000 milestone, thanks to a special benefit concert on 6 March at the Jam House. The Edinburgh Bands Together event raised £6,000 for the appeal, which helped the Hospice reach the important £300,000 landmark. The buy a brick appeal is raising funds for the St Columba’s Hospice rebuild project.
Over 900 people packed in for the concert to see performances from the Gospel Truth Choir, Davie Paton of The Alan Parsons Project and Pilot, and Nobby Clark, who was an original member of the Bay City Rollers. A number of top blues, funk, soul and jazz musicians also performed at the special event, including Liz MacEwan, who organised the event for St Columba’s Hospice. St Columba’s was chosen as the charity for the event as Liz and several of the musicians have had family members cared for by the Hospice.
Martin Lawlor, Campaign Fundraising Manager for St Columba’s Hospice said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have reached the £300,000 milestone thanks to the Edinburgh Bands Together Concert and we’d like to give a huge thank you to Liz and her team, as well as the entire Edinburgh community, for their exceptional support of our Buy a Brick Appeal. £300,000 will go a long way towards building our new St Columba’s Hospice – in fact it’s enough to pay for one of our spacious and modern three bedded ensuite rooms in our new in-patient unit.
“We still have lots more bricks to sell and we have £6.1 million to raise, so please visit our website to buy a brick if you can. Buying a brick will help build our new home for St Columba’s Hospice, which will care for more than 40,000 patients over the next 40 years.”
We also reported to you on the intrepid Parthenon2Parthenon cyclists who plan to cycle from Athens to Edinburgh to raise money for St Columba’s.
St Columba’s Hospice will soon be undertaking a complete redevelopment, transforming it into a state- of-the-art palliative care facility.
