The trams are not running yet. Over the weekend, as you can see above, roadworks in Princes Street were taking place to repair the tramlines which have not yet been used by a single tram. Edinburgh Trams tell us that there is still scope for ‘incremental delivery”. Other papers over the weekend told us the rolling stock is being sold to Swindon. And The Scotsman tells us that the new Chief Executive of the Council, Sue Bruce, is probably too busy with the election to sort out the trams. What to believe? Well the mediation process is behind closed doors. So what can we possibly know?
Just a reminder that Waverley Steps are now closed during the renovation works. Network Rail tell us that:-“Edinburgh Waverley will be transformed by a £130 million investment in the station and its facilities, creating an environment that meets the needs of passengers in the 21st century while preserving Waverley’s rich heritage.
The renewal programme includes:
- Replacement of the 34,000m2 station roof with clear, strengthened glass to shed new light on the station concourse and platforms;
- New Market Street entrance, increasing accessibility to the station for users;
- Refurbishment of station concourse and main building exterior, improving facilities for passengers;
- Improvements to platforms 8 and 9, including new canopies and station furniture.
As well as these improvements, the station’s original ironwork features will be repaired and repainted while non-essential station furniture, buildings and redundant high-level walkways will be removed permanently.”
Gorgie City Farm have a way of fulfilling dreams. You can now own a pony for the day – if you contact them quickly. “OWN A PONY DAY: Book now for Friday 1st April, 1:30-4pm. £7.50 for the complete pony experience with Donna the Orra and her team. We hope to run fortnightly on Fridays thereafter, 2-4pm with our newest member of staff, a graduate of the Pony Team in charge.”
Yelp is now in Edinburgh. If you feel you can review a restaurant or pub, then join up and tell everyone what you think! Yelpers seem to be prolific commenters when they get started.
The TEDx Observer event staged in London which was broadcast live to Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh last weekend is now online, or at least some of the talks are online. The speakers at a TED event are all told to give the talk of their life – and we would agree that they did. In particular we would recommend the talk by a Palestinian doctor, Dr Izzeldin Abuelaish, author of ‘I Shall not Hate’.
