A worrying move by the Lord Advocate, Lord Wallace, according to The Herald, in tabling an amendment to The Scotland Bill currently before Westminster. The paper says that the peer has tried to amend Scottish criminal law by removing the right of appeal to the High Court in Scotland and moving the jurisdiction in such cases to The Supreme Court in London. This would mean that the court of final appeal (except in cases which can then be appealed to Europe) in all civil and criminal matters would no longer be in Scotland, ending the traditional role of our own judges. A separate thread of the article is that the amendment was tabled secretly.
