Determined to make women rich, ex-militant suffragette Mary Barfoot and her devoted protégé and lover Rhoda enlist female students to master the new invention that will gain them freedom – the typewriter. Three spinster sisters are invited into the school to rescue them from poverty, setting in motion an odyssey of alcoholism, cross dressing and sexual revolution.

Michael Marra with Mairi Campbell

Michael Marra is one of Scotland’s most prolific songwriters, and a much loved & respected figure in the entertainment business. He was brought up in the Lochee district of Dundee and his first public performance was at an NCR Christmas party in the 1950s. Although predominantly known as a songwriter, Michael has worked extensively in theatre, radio and television.

Award winning Scottish singer songwriter Mairi Campbell’s first solo album is to be released in 2011. She been described by the Scotsman as ‘one of the great sounds of Scottish folk music today’. International attention came her way following her haunting rendition of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ in the movie ‘Sex and the City’.

The Loveboat Big Band perform at Portobello Town Hall from 8pm –  midnight, featuring Orkestra Del Sol, The Bevvy Sisters, The Ivitsky Bros, Admiral T and special guest Captain Barnacle. The Loveboat Big band was born in Edinburgh’s Bongo Club as a cabaret act ten years ago and has since headlined major events including Hogmanay Vegas in Edinburgh and has had sell-out shows at the Fringe and the Spiegeltent. Scottish Storytelling Centre organizes Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry, you are welcome to free drop in stories and fun related to the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry with Tim Porteus and The Pans Tellers! The event is related to the exhibition about the Jacobite rebellion. Exhibition will be shown until Saturday, February 19.

Scottish Cultural Polish Association Ball

The biggest Polish cultural organisation in Scotland will celebrate its 40th anniversary on the 19th of February. The programme includes a  4-course dinner,  live music and dancing until the dawn at Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor Hotel . The event is open to the non-members of the society as well!

Today is the last day the Southern Light Opera perform Fiddler on the Roof at the King’s Theatre. There is a matinee performance at 2.30pm, tickets from £12, and an evening performance at 7.30pm, tickets from £14. This is an amateur production, directed by Andy Johnston.
