Three award-winning female documentary filmmakers nurtured through Scottish Documentary Institute have been selected to attend the 9th Berlinale Talent Campus out of over 4000 applicants. The lab will take place from February 12 – 17, 2011.
Johanna Wagner, Anne Milne, and Mariana Oliva will attend the lab and mingle with 350 other filmmakers and the cream of the international film community to learn via masterclasses, screenings and workshops during one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
Responding on behalf of all three female filmmakers, to the honour of being selected for this prestigious event, Anne Milne says: “Being selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus is a fantastic opportunity to meet and network with filmmakers from all over the world. To be introduced to new work, new ideas and to be inspired from those at the top of their field”.
Johanna Wagner is the director of Peter in Radioland, produced through SDI’s Bridging the Gap scheme; screened in over 30 international festivals. Winner – Anthony Minghella Award for Best UK Short Film, Hull IFF 2010, Winner – Best Scottish Documentary Short Award, EIFF 2009, Nominated – Best European short film for European Film Academy Award, EIFF 2009, Nominated – International Young Documentary Competition, Leipzig Film Festival 2009, Nominated – CPH DOX: Short DOX Award 2009, Nominated – BAFTA Scotland Short Film Award; The film sold to Korean TV and SBS TV (Australia).
Anne Milne director of Maria’s Way and a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, home of Scottish Documentary Institute. Her film has screened at major festivals, including IDFA (International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam), and is currently touring as best of IDFA in 36 cities in Netherlands and Belgium. She is Winner – BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award 2010 Best Student Work, Winner- Scottish Short Doc Award – Edinburgh Int’l Film Festival 2010, Winner – Audience Award: Best Documentary – Era New Horizon International FF 2010; Nominated – European Film Academy , Nominated – Short Film Award 2010
Mariana Oliva is currently studying for her MFA in Film Directing at Edinburgh College of Art. Her filmmaking debut was Humanoids a playful study of a group of men whose obsession is forming a football team of autonomous robots. The film is soon to be circulated around the film festival circuit.
The Berlinale Talent Campus is a creative academy and networking platform for 350 up-and-coming filmmakers from all over the world. The Berlinale Talent Campus lasts for six days and offers a huge variety of different programme elements for all aspects of filmmaking. The 9th edition of the Berlinale Talent Campus will focus on filmmakers positioning themselves in today’s world of cinema. The Campus will support and foster emerging filmmakers, bringing them together with seasoned experts who have travelled the road before and will shine a light on the bumpy road ahead.
