Councillor Andrew Burns previews what will be discussed at The Policy and Strategy Committee today, including the cost of council employees taking the day off for the Royal Wedding and the works which might be carried out to the centre of the city.
Rose Street will be given this new look according to The Scotsman. “The overhaul will see Rose Street stage regular street markets and festival events, as well as be transformed by new floral and lighting displays. A clampdown on traffic using the street, bringing redundant buildings back into use, and clamping down on “clutter” are also thought to be on the cards.”
There were some people, councillors included, at the Edinburgh Council meeting a couple of weeks ago who claimed that deputations to the council do nothing to affect the outcome of the meeting. A deputation is allowed five minutes to put their case before the meeting in an effort to change the council’s view on one of the matters before them. It seems though that the efforts of the Moray Feuars have had a result. Perhaps. The Herald report that the Council is considering installing monitors at key points in the city to calculate emissions in key streets. The Moray Feuars claimed that the emissions in Great Stuart Street had risen to dangerous levels as a result of the traffic in Shandwick Place being rerouted through New Town streets.
