Lothians MSP, Shirley-Anne Somerville, today welcomed the news that the Capital City supplement – a £3 million fund provided to Edinburgh by the SNP Government to meet the costs of being Scotland’s capital is to be increased.
SNP Finance Secretary John Swinney MSP today announced he would increase funding for Edinburgh by £400,000. He also confirmed funding for a record 25,000 apprentices, support for small businesses to take on new staff, funding for a council tax freeze and the abolition of prescription charges from April.
Ms Somerville said:-“This is good news for Edinburgh.
“With the budget delivering a council tax freeze, the money to abolish prescription charges and funding for a record 25,000 apprentices this is a good budget for Edinburgh and for Scotland.
“The SNP has been the only party to recognise Edinburgh’s special place as our country’s capital and to back that with proper funding for the city. It is disappointing Labour continued to vote against supporting Scotland’s capital but I am pleased that this money will soon be being spent on the streets of Edinburgh.”
