More than 100 swimmers and members past and present of Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club are celebrating the occasion of their 125th Anniversary at a Civic Reception with Lord Provost The Rt. Hon. George Grubb at the Edinburgh City Chambers on Monday 8 November at 6:00pm.
The Rt. Hon. George Grubb, Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, said: “It’s a great honour to be hosting this event to commemorate Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club’s 125th anniversary. The club has an exemplary record of coaching generation upon generation of swimmers, from complete beginners to national and international competitors. Among their recent alumni are Kirsty Balfour, Gregor Tait and Kris Gilchrist, with club member Louise Pate newly returned from competing for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. On behalf of the people of Edinburgh, my congratulations to everyone involved in the club, from the professional Head Coach and dedicated team of volunteers who run it to the keen swimmers they coach.”
Stephen Osborne President of Heart of Midlothian ASC said: “We are delighted that the anniversary and success of Hearts ASC is being recognised in this way. It is very encouraging to know that our civic leaders are aware of and recognise the activities of the club, and their support is very much appreciated. We have recently restructured our Swim School and offer swimming lessons, swimming squads at every level from beginner to elite along with a thriving Masters section. We are always looking for more members and are holding our next Open Day at Drumbrae Leisure Centre on 21st Nov. We have recently been successful in achieving the SwiMark accolade in recognition of our procedures and achievements and I am very confident that this, along with our dedicated swimmers, coaches and volunteers, sees us in good order and well placed to continue to build on our success in the coming years.”
