MOTION-Paul-CROPPEDwebOn 12 and 26 August 2010, Paul Motion, Partner with bto (formerly Glasgow firm of solicitors Brechin Tindall Oatts) and Solicitor Advocate, will appear again at Fringe Central in Edinburgh to present two free seminars for performers and managers.

These interactive events were originally suggested by artist management clients whom bto represents. The seminars were well received in 2009.

On 12 August at 10:30, Paul will explore the basics of copyright law in a session called ‘Stealing Ideas Unravelling Copyright’. This is a non-legalistic introduction to copyright law, which will identify what can and cannot be protected, with emphasis on performing arts issues.

In ‘Small Print Big Problem?’ on 26 August at 14:00, Paul will deal with the basics of contract law and consider termination/compensation issues which artists, promoters and venue managers may encounter.

Paul said: I was delighted to be asked back to the Fringe. Last yearā€™s shows were a bit of a shot in the dark. We were worried that legal topics might be rather dry. However, with an audience of creative people there was always plenty of intelligent banter. This year we have a better idea of the issues people want to hear about and weā€™ll try to tailor the presentations accordinglyā€.

Tickets for the events can be obtained at the door (Venue Fringe Central) or booked online at:
