Leading venture capital group Scottish Equity Partners (SEP) has appointed Malcolm Thoms, Chief Operating Officer at Cairn Energy PLC, to its Advisory Board.
SEP’s Managing Partner, Calum Paterson, said: “We are delighted that Malcolm Thoms has agreed to join our Advisory Board. He brings a wealth of corporate and energy sector experience. I have no doubt he will make an excellent contribution, particularly in relation to our investments in oilfield technologies but also more generally.”

Malcolm joined Cairn Energy, one of Europe’s largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies, in 1989 and held a number of senior positions before becoming an executive director in 2000. He is also a non-executive director of Agora Oil & Gas AS, a privately-owned oil and gas exploration company focused on Norway and the UK, and a Trustee of Edinburgh Development Trust.
SEP, which operates from offices in London and Glasgow, invests in early stage and emerging growth companies across the UK, focusing on IT, healthcare and energy-related technologies. SEP has helped to create many of the UKs most successful early stage technology companies including Wolfson and CSR, as well as oilfield services company MTEM which was acquired by Petroleum Geo-Services.
