One of half of critically acclaimed comedy duo That Pair and star of BBC Radio 4s Newsjack and Sketchorama, presents this dynamic debut hour about coming to terms with being average.
How do you make peace with the fact that you may never do anything extraordinary? Under the guise of her delusional alter-ego, Ava Rage, Lorna Shaw struggles to come to terms with being average in a world that rewards excellence. Aided by a loop pedal and vocal harmonies, she weaves neurotic sound bites with contemporary melodies to create a layered depiction of a woman attempting the momentous out of the mundane, in this hour of music, stand up and clown.
This debut solo hour is inspired by Lorna’s real feelings of being overwhelmed by choice and paralysed by indecision. Shaw said: “Out of an existential crisis came Ava Rage; an ordinary woman who has delusions of grandeur but no discernible talent and a severe case of social media inflicted FOMO. The truth is, none of us are extraordinary, and it’s how we choose to cope with that information that determines our destiny.”
Ava Rage is the creation of actor-comedian, Lorna Shaw, star of Newsjack and Expenses Only (BBC Radio 4), The Midnight Beast (E4) and BBC Comedy Feeds and one half of critically acclaimed duo That Pair (Soho Theatre, BBC Radio 4) who enjoyed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival between 2012 and 2015.
