Edinburgh RC Youth Race Team has enjoyed an outstanding first half of the 2026 season with riders collecting well over 30 wins and podium finishes across road, track and mountain bike competition, alongside international selection for both Scotland and Great Britain.
The season opened at Tour L’Enfer du Linlithgow in March, where Sarah McCormac won the Youth A Girls crit, lapping the field in the process.
On the mountain bike, Eilidh Coutts, from Balerno, has been the team’s most consistent performer across the whole season. After winning the opening domestic round of the Scottish XC Series at Cathkin Braes in March, she recorded back-to-back podiums at the first rounds of the Lloyds Bank National XC Series, and finished 2nd at Round 5 of that series to move into 2nd place overall in the national standings. She was also selected for Team Scotland and won the short track event at the Inter-Regional Championships in Wales in July. Ruaridh Cook won the pairs category at the 10 Under The Ben endurance event at Fort William, and Oscar Tanski made his competitive debut in the Scottish Enduro Series.
Track cycling has also been a particular strength. Micah Myles has enjoyed a breakout season, winning the overall at a National Youth Omnium Series round in Glasgow in March with what appeared to be a record kilometre time, before taking the Scottish Youth Omnium Championship title in Dundee in May.
At the Scottish Youth and Junior Track Championships at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in June Micah took gold in both the youth and junior sprint, gold in the 500m and junior keirin, and further silver and bronze medals across the scratch race and kilo. He has since been selected for the British Cycling National Sprinting Relay squad, winning both the U17 match sprint and the keirin at a German youth sprint series meeting.
Lucy Sweeney, Izzy Barbour and Sarah McCormac have also collected multiple medals across the Scottish and National Omnium programme, with Izzy adding silver and bronze at the Sir Chris Hoy championships.
On the road, Izzy Barbour and Lucy Sweeney were selected for Team Scotland at the Youth Tour of Flanders in Belgium in May, racing on the classic pavé roads of one of cycling’s most iconic venues. Izzy has continued to build strong form since, defending her Ilkley Crits title in July and finishing 24th at the British Road Race Championships in Scarborough on a demanding, hilly course that forced many riders to retire. Closer to home, Danny Farrell has been a prolific presence in the youth and road bike sections of the Fife weekly time trials throughout the season.
Alastair Webb, Edinburgh RC club president, said: “Halfway through the season, the strength in depth across this squad is clear. We have a rider on the British Cycling National Sprinting Relay programme winning internationally, two girls representing Scotland at the Tour of Flanders, a genuine contender at the top of the National XC Series, and Scottish champions on the track. It has been a fantastic first half of the year for the whole team.”
The team continues racing through the second half of the season, with National Championship and British Series events still to come across all disciplines.
