The UK’s leading breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now, is calling for people to take part in its brand-new Pink Ribbon Walk in Edinburgh in June.
A brand-new Pink Ribbon Walk, Breast Cancer Now’s series of walking fundraisers, is coming to Edinburgh for the first time next month, and Breast Cancer Now is calling on people across Scotland to step out and help change the future of breast cancer.
Over 5,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Scotland. That’s over 100 people every week hearing “It’s breast cancer’. The Pink Ribbon Walk in Edinburgh is a chance for people to come together to help raise money for people affected by breast cancer.
Taking place on Saturday 20 June at Holyrood Park, the new 10-mile walk will see participants experience some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, while raising vital funds for life-saving research and life-changing support. The event is expected to bring together supporters from across Scotland and beyond, offering an achievable and rewarding challenge for both first-time walkers and more experienced participants.
Starting and finishing in Holyrood Park, the 10-mile route takes through the iconic city of Edinburgh, showcasing some of its most famous sights including Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh Castle. People can bring their pup along and give Greyfriars Bobby a wave as they pass.
People are encouraged to come with pals or go-solo. But everyone can expect a warm Scottish welcome on the day from Breast Cancer Now’s Glasgow based team, with Lorne sausage sandwiches available to buy for breakfast, and tasty snacks for participants to enjoy at rest stops along the route.
At the finish line, every walker will receive a free hot meal and a commemorative medal to celebrate their achievement.
Participants will also have the chance to add a pink ribbon with their own message to Breast Cancer Now’s Display of Hope—a powerful installation featuring 21 years of ribbons and messages honouring loved ones, celebrating community and inspiring others.
Since they began, the Pink Ribbon Walks have raised over £15.5m for Breast Cancer Now and when we first walked in 2005, 8 in 10 women in the UK survived breast cancer for 5 or more years. Now, it’s 9 in 10. That’s the power of science and support in action.
The need today for support has never been more important. One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every 9 minutes and a man every day. And if nothing is done to change this, one woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer every 8 minutes by 2040.
