Hibs defender Grant Hanley admitted the team are feeling “disappointed” as Saturday’s defeat at Ibrox put an end to their Premier Sports Cup run.
But now he is focused on Tuesday night’s visit to Falkirk.
Despite a positive showing in the first half, Hibs would trail by two at the break after Nicolas Raskin and Bojan Miovski both struck.
An earlier finish from Martin Boyle was ruled out for handball by VAR as David Gray’s men looked to be in the ascendancy, but the host’s two crucial goals before the break turned the game entirely on it’s head.
“We’re disappointed,” Hanley told Hibs TV. “We feel like it’s an opportunity missed.
“It’s a cup competition we felt in with a chance of going all the way in. So, we’re really frustrated, and disappointed with the result.
“There’s been a lot of noise about the game this week and everything that’s going on, it probably felt like there was an expectancy on us to come here and get a result. But we were under no illusions.
“We know how good a side they are and the quality they’ve got. Granted they’ve gone through a tough patch, but we knew it was going to be difficult.”
An opportunity to play at Hampden Park in the semi-final stage of the Premier Sports Cup unfortunately passes the Hibees by.
While exiting the competition is no doubt dispiriting, Hanley insists the team must quickly move past the defeat and turn their attention back to league action.
“We knew what the rewards were. We knew it was an opportunity to go and play at Hampden and be in the semi-final of the Cup.
“As players, that’s what your targets are. Those are the games you want to play and that’s what you want to be involved in. So, like I said, we’re disappointed.
“But that’s the beauty of football at times, there’s another game around the corner pretty quickly,” he added.
“We need to recover, quickly debrief, take what we need from this game and get ready for Tuesday.”
