Area of St Andrew Square cordoned off by police

An area of St Andrew Square has been cordoned off since around 11.30am on Wednesday morning.

A green forensic tent has been put outside Harvey Nichols store. Ambulances are in attendance, and the shop has been closed to shoppers.

A spokesman for Lothian Buses said: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve St Andrew Square and are instead bypassing and continuing on South St David Street until further notice.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.35am on Wednesday, 19 August, 2026, we were called to a report that a man had fallen from height at a building in the St Andrew Square area of Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended however the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
