Organisers of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club near North Berwick were forced to suspend play in the prestige event at 10.45am today (Saturday).

Fog was the reason but the suspension will be lifted at 13.10 with Spanish star, Jon Rahm, and American, Max Greyserman, expected on the first tee.

Despite the suspension, traffic was still noted coming to the North Berwick-based course, and car parks are filling up, but there is no wind to clear the fog and umbrellas are the order of the day.

This is a picture of the course seen from the car park at the exclusive club and, as you can seen, little is stirring.

The buggies, normally buzzing around the par-70 coarse and surrounding area, are parked awaiting word that all is good to go.

At the time of this update the course was barely visible only a few yards away and prospects of an imminent return to action did not look too promising. We lived in hope and they announcement of a resumption came at 12.48.

For the record, the fog was present from the first tee time when Japanese professional, Yuto Katsuragawa, teed-up for his third round after posting scores of 71 and 67 for a two-round total of minus two, bang on the cut line.

He was out on his own with a marker and was one of 17 players on the course at the time and they included Glasgow-born Scott Jamieson who was in the sixth group after shooting back-to-back scores of 69 in the first two rounds, once again, right on the cut line.

Miguel Viador, the tournament director for the DP World Tour, said that the fog was evident from the start of play but it worsened, particularly in the high part of the course around holes five, six and seven.

The rules are that the players do not have to see the fight of the ball but it is vital that they see what is before them in terms of bunkers etc.

He added: “We could not keep the players out there any longer but the players need to be ready.”

Viador said that an improvement in the weather is expected and the revised draw was advised with the final two pairings, Matt Fitzpatrick (England) and Rory McIlroy (Ireland) expected to tee-off at 18.04.

The final pair, Tom Kim (Korea) and English golfer, Jordan Smith were due on tee at 18.15.

Robert McIntyre, Scotland’s top hope, was due out at 17.42 with Joost Luiten (The Netherlands).
