An East Lothian restaurant formerly ran by Tom Kitchin is reverting to its historic name when it reopens next year.
The Bonnie Badger in Gullane, which was recently acquired by Scottish hospitality operator Buzzworks, will close later this year for extensive renovations before relaunching in spring 2027 under its original name The Golf Inn.
The property was previously operated by celebrity chef Kitchin, who launched The Bonnie Badger in 2018. Prior to that, the establishment served the local community for generations under the name The Golf Inn.
Buzzworks says the renaming reflects a commitment to preserving the property’s local legacy as it expands its accommodation portfolio across the region.

The refurbishment, led by Scottish interior designer Jim Hamilton, will see the venue integrated into the operator’s House Collection. It will feature a pub, a restaurant, and upgraded guest bedrooms offering accommodation for golfers and visitors to the East Lothian coastline.
During the closure over the autumn and winter months, the existing staff team will be retained and temporarily relocated to the Bass & Barrel in North Berwick, with the opportunity to return to the Gullane venue upon reopening.
Kenny Blair, CEO at Buzzworks, said: “Returning this venue to The Golf Inn name feels like the right way to mark the beginning of its next chapter.
“The Golf Inn holds a special place in the history of Gullane and remains a name that means a great deal to many people in the community. As we invest in the building, we want to recognise that heritage while creating a venue that will serve locals and visitors alike.
“This investment is about building on everything that has made the venue so special over the years.”
