Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No 1 golfer, has joined the field for the Genesis Scottish Open in East Lothian in July.
The American-born star, who finished joint eighth last year on nine-under-par, will warm-up for The Open by joining Rory McIlroy, the double Masters winner and world No 2, at The Renaissance Club from July 9 to 12.
Robert MacIntyre, the 2024 Scottish Open winner, and defending champion, 26-year-old, American golfer, Chris Gotterup, will also be there.
Maryland-born Gotterup finished on 15 under-par, to pocket 1.58m dollars, last summer, and he carded a score two strokes ahead of McIlroy and England’s Marco Penge last year.
Scheffler, aged 29, will be making his fifth appearance at the East Lothian course and he said: “I enjoy taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK.
“The tournament always has a strong field and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week.”
